Maybe it’s the shipper in me, but I paid close attention to the interactions between Sokka and Toph.

Just like the show, they have a lot of physical contact, even if it’s just a hand on the shoulder or something.

276. Once Toph and Sokka were walking through Republic City park and as they sat on a bench Toph noticed a tiny form hiding in the bushes. They decided to investigate and what they found was a little boy with bright green eyes clutching his rumbling stomach. Without another thought Sokka went to get him something to eat while Toph sat with the small boy. They sat and talked; the boy was astounded by her ways of earthbending and her stories. He confessed to her that he was too scared to go out and help his brother get money, and asked her how she got her confidence when she was younger. Toph took a real moment to think about it, just as Sokka came back with an armful of food. As the boy started to dig into his food Toph told him that she got her confidence from two things; competing and winning in earth bending tournaments and having someone who loved her for all that she was. Just as she said that she gave Sokka a quick kiss on the cheek, making the little boy giggle. He then stood up and told them that he would train and he would be one of the best probenders in the world. This made Toph smile, but Sokka noticed that the boy hadn’t eaten all of his food and asked him why. The boy only smiled and told him that he was saving it for his brother. He then waved at Toph and Sokka before he ran away shouting back “I’ve got to tell Mako about my plan!”

This is how I feel about the ship Tokka from Avatar the Last Airbender. I think that at the time of the series the idea of Sokka and Toph were kind of cute, even though Sokka already had a girlfriend. Then once Legends of Korra came out tons of people started liking the ship because, Sokka and…

People are saying that there are ways around it, and I believe it. Of course, there always could be the incest side (as it was perfectly acceptable to date your cousin in the 1920s), but it’s even said that Lin probably found a stepfather in Sokka instead of an actual father. There’s more to a ship than just blood relatives. I believe in Tokka, and nothing can change that. I’ll believe it’s canon until they blatantly say that it’s not.
